Close Coupled Pump
The compact SD progressive cavity pump is primarily recognised for its compact, space-saving design. It is constructed such that the drive unit is mounted directly onto the pump body without the need for any couplings — suited to almost all industrial sectors, handling low-viscous to viscous media with and without solids.

ROTOMAC™ SD Close Coupled Pump
Part of the ROTOMAC S Range, the SD progressive cavity pump is built around the same robust, encapsulated cardan joint as the SA model, but in a close-coupled configuration. The drive unit mounts directly onto the pump body — eliminating the need for external couplings, a separate bearing housing, and an extended baseplate, resulting in a compact, space-saving footprint.
All ROTOMAC SD pumps can be used across almost all industrial sectors, handling low-viscous to highly viscous media — with or without suspended solids.
Why close coupled? Removing the separate bearing housing, couplings, and extended baseplate significantly reduces material cost and installation footprint — while flexible mounting means the SD can be installed horizontally or vertically depending on site conditions.
Details & Configuration
Everything you need to know about the SD Close Coupled Pump — from core benefits to full technical configuration options.
Compact Footprint
Since the drive unit is mounted closely to the pump body without couplings, the overall space requirement is lesser when compared to other pump types.
Easy Maintenance
Simple maintenance thanks to quick-release yoke shaft connections between the drive unit and pump yoke shaft.
Low Pulsation
Gentle & even flow without dampeners or condensers — particularly suitable for sensitive pumping media.
Cost-Efficient
Reduced material costs thanks to a design without bearing housing, couplings, and extended baseplate.
Fits All
Available with various rotor/stator geometries and a wide range of different shaft seals — tailored to suit any conveying process.
Flexible Installation Options
Depending on the on-site conditions, installation is possible in a horizontal or vertical position — also offered with a large suction housing that can be rotated in any position at 90° intervals.
- Discharge Port
- Available with gauge connection, flange connections conforming to ISO, DIN & ANSI standards.
- Rotor
- Wear resistant and corrosion-resistant materials. Optionally with hard surface treatment.
- Conventional Geometry
- With shorter pitches, the geometry is for high pressure applications.
- Extended Geometry
- With a small rotor diameter and a long pitch, the extended geometry attains lower surface velocities and extends the service life due to its large sealing line.
- Stator
- The seal on both ends is molded as an integral part of the elastomeric stator.
- Suction Housing
- With large cross section and designed for smooth flow conditions, with drain plug and connections for pressure/vacuum gauge. Flange connections in DIN or ANSI can be rotated in 90° increments.
- Robust Cardan Type Joint
- Heavy duty, robust, long lasting cardan type universal joint — it can handle more load due to its inherent design. These joints offer a longer service life than the conventional pin joint.
- Yoke Shaft
- Connects the drive shaft to the joint. With gland packing, the plug-in shaft is used as a shaft protection sleeve. Upon request, it is available with wear resistant coating.
- Shaft Sealing
- Available in gland packing and also with flushing lantern ring, single mechanical seal, as well as double mechanical seals.
- Close Coupled Drive Connection
- For easy dismantling of the pump and drive, enabling quick replacement of the rotating parts and shaft seals. The yoke shaft pin secures the shaft connection to the drive, and the water thrower protects the drive from contamination/gland leakage.
- Body
- For connection of pump and drive and to secure the assembly to the baseplate or directly to the foundation.
- Drive
- Geared motors, variable speed drives, or frequency controlled motors of all major manufacturers, directly flanged to the pump without additional couplings or guards. Covers made of stainless steel are available.
- Dry Run Protection
- Dry run protection monitors the temperature of the stator and shuts the pump down when the limit value is reached, to protect the pump from dry running.
- Overpressure Protection
- The pressure gauge switches off the pump as soon as a pre-set pressure is exceeded or not reached, protecting the pump from increased wear and tear or piping damage.
- Seal Support Systems
- We offer seal flush, quench, and barrier type support systems. Barrier type systems protect the shaft sealing by selectively supplying barrier liquid. Also available with flow meter on request.
- Retensioning Device
- With this device, a worn stator can be evenly readjusted at several points so that the clamping between the rotor and stator is once again optimal and pump performance increases.
- Standard Baseplate
- Suited baseplate for mounting with geared motor, for standard applications. Specialized features available as per custom requirements.
- Sealing Options
- Standard Gland PackingUniversal choice for sealing the gland area in the pump. Also available with grease or lantern ring to shut off the media flow. Can also be supplied with upstream labyrinth seal and additional flush connection or lubricating device.
- Single Acting Mechanical SealUniversal standard mechanical seal for dosing, food applications, and semi-submersible pumps for sealing of liquid from the gland area in the pump.
- Multiple Acting Mechanical SealMechanical seals arranged in a row. Available in "back-to-back", "face-to-face", or "tandem" sequence.
- Cartridge Mechanical Seal
- Ready-to-install pre-assembled units with supply connections and attachment brackets for quick replacement.
